MEET THE FOUNDER BEHIND CLOSE UP AND PRIVATE, SERGEI SVIATCHENKO.
Sergei Sviatchenko is one of today's most influential collage artists and an internationally renowned style icon within the classic universe. Besides being rewarded multiple times for his personal style, Sergei is the founder of the highly influential Close Up and Private - a fashion-forward photography project, which combines art, classic style and understanding for textiles in a completely original and captivating way, offering new perspectives on contemporary fashion and identity. We’ve been in close contact with Sergei since we first discovered Close Up and Private in 2009 and discussed endless ideas and takes on fashion. Now, 12 years later, we’re thrilled to finally launch our first collection together.
Whether we’re talking art, fashion or a design project, Sergei always seeks the same output in his work: the aesthetic surprise. The indescribable feeling of wanting to explore the work, the composition and the individual elements. The feeling of complex simplicity.
This is what you’ll find all the way through the CUAP x S.T. VALENTIN collection.
THE PENNY LOAFER FAVOURED BY HISTORY’S GREATEST. DESIGNED AND CRAFTED TO STAY RELEVANT FOREVER.
Miles Davis. John. F. Kennedy. Elvis Presley.
The penny loafer has been favoured by some of history's greatest. From well dressed presidents and college students in the classic ivy uniform to rock’n’roll icons styling them with ripped denim, white tees and leather jackets. It’s a classic and timeless piece that should be a part of every man's wardrobe.
The CUAP x S.T. VALENTIN loafer pays tribute to history. Sergei has found inspiration in classic designs from the 50's and 60's - for example the painter Cy Twombly standing in worn out loafers on the cover of Vogue in 1966. The inspiration is mixed with his own interpretation of the loafer as an extension of the home slipper: easy to put on and take off on the go. This leads to an iconic piece that you can proudly wear - no matter if you’re a modern classicist or a rock’n’roller to the bone.
Everything down to the last detail is handmade in our factory in Portugal.
